Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Primer Review

I recieved this primer a little while back from a giveaway and have been promising to review it ever since. I also had a couple requests from my lovely followers wanting to hear about it. So here I am, finally getting around to it now! Lol. I've been a little busy if you wern't already able to tell.

What Smashbox Claims of this Primer...
What it is: A hydrating foundation primer that leaves an immediate cooling, refreshing sensation on the skin.

What it does: Hydration is essential for healthier, younger looking skin and makeup that just looks better. Give your complexion a moisture boost while creating a perfect canvas for foundation application with this lightweight, oil-free formula. It contains Hydraplex12 extract derived from desert plants, which allows the primer to immediately quench parched skin and seal in moisture for hours with a protective barrier that fills in fine lines and pores.

I really love the packaging on this! You can tell that it is high quality just by holding it in your hands. I also love that it comes in a squeezy tube. Smashbox primers used to come in glass bottles which probably wasn't very practical. Easy to break and I'm assuming people were not able to get all of the product out. I love any product that comes in a tube. It's so convenient and you get your moneys worth by being able to use all of the product. Five stars for the packaging ;)
The texture is smooth and you can feel how hydrating it is just by rubbing it on your hand. It soaks into your skin, leaving it feeling soft and refreshed. It's a more watered down texture, so it doesn't fill in pores and fine lines as well as silicone based primers do, (Although this IS silicone, you just can't feel it) but it really helped my makeup stay in place all day. I love this product for my skin especially because it tends to be very dry in some areas, and this primer assisted in moisturinzing these. Now I would still recommend you use a moisturizer with this product because it is infact not marketed as a moisturizer, it is a primer therefore you still need your daily moisturizer to keep you skin as hydrated as it should be.

When it comes to the scent, this product does have a light scent. I am very sensitive to smells but this one didn't bother my nose or my skin the slightest. My skin is sensitive as well to many things and this one didn't break me out!

The only downside I can find of this product is the steep price point. One ounce retails for $42.00 USD. Although I love this primer, I just can't see myself going to purchase another one for that much. If they were to lower the price (Yeah, right), I'd be a forever purchaser. But, if you have the money and you don't mind spending forty or so dollars on a primer, I absolutly recommend this-especially for those you girls who have dry skin that needs a little extra TLC- like mine!

  1. Sounds pretty amazing! Smashbox always has great products, I love that it is non-oily, I really hate when products feel oily and tacky on my skin!
    Great review, Kelsey!

  2. I'm a fan of the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer and Photo Finish Light. The Light primer is oil-free. It really helps to keep my make-up in place. You should also try BareMinerals Prime Time foundation primer. It makes my skin feel super silky!

    1. Absolutly darling. In my review i say my skin is dry, but it is on and off combination/oily. I have tried it when my skin is combo and oily, and it works great either way. Its not super moisturizing and heavy so it definitely wouldn't bother your skin :D

  6. Thanks for the great review. I've been eyeing this primer for a while because I can always use a little extra hydration under my foundation - I'm glad to hear that it works well. Still, the $42 price tag and the fact that I am in love with my MUFE HD Primer (which is a little cheaper) make me think I'm not going to rush out to buy this one anytime soon... :P
